Dear Editor:

There is no shortage of personal injury lawyer money being poured into the special election for Senate District 6. These special interest contributions underscore how it’s wise for voters to know who is funding their candidates and to find out where their candidates stand on the important issues facing the state, especially legal reform.

It is critical that our candidates hear from us that we want them to protect the legal reforms we’ve passed in Texas. We’ve come too far to give an inch to the self-serving opposition who would love nothing better than to roll back the fair, common-sense reforms that are helping small businesses and families flourish.

The bottom line is this: we all pay, and we all lose when our civil justice system is abused. Not only does lawsuit abuse prohibit employers from providing jobs to strengthen our economy; it also makes it more difficult for health care consumers to find quality medical care. Moreover, consumers pay higher prices as the excessive costs of liability get tacked onto the price of goods and services.

So, come Election Day be sure to vote, but first ask the candidates, “Where do you stand on legal reform?”

Sincerely,

Court Koenning
