As the debate over the best way to curb frivolous and abusive lawsuits rages on in legislative bodies across the nation, the Create Jobs, Not Lawsuits campaign continues to promote the message of smart legal reform in its national tour.  Last week in Sacramento, Congressman Dan Lungren (R-CA) joined California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse, the Sacramento Metro Chamber and NFIB for a roundtable discussion with business leaders about his legislation to stop predatory lawsuits alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Readers will remember that California ADA-related lawsuits have been the subject of public scrutiny in the past several months, as many of these lawsuits are baseless and designed to force businesses to settle out of court, even if no wrongdoing occurred.  Such abusive lawsuits are a drag on economic development and push California’s commerce to states with a better business climate. Let’s hope that California lawmakers put an end to this practice by enacting policies that discourage lawsuit abuse.

Next week the Create Jobs, Not Lawsuits tour continues here in Texas as Bay Area Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse supporters in Corpus Christi have a chance to learn why Texas lawsuit reforms have been so successful.  For more information on that event, click here.
